Saarinen takes another double from Beijing
Pekka Saarinen took another double from the 6th race weekend of Asian Formula Renault serie. The Beijing track was only 2,3 kilometers long and the track did demand a lot from the drivers and teams due its condition. The bounces on the track make it hard to find the right setup for the car.
The lap times Pekka did in official practices were so good that the team did expect the pole position also from qualifying.
“Saturday morning I was a little uncertain about my performance, but after a few cups of coffee all the excessive excitement was gone. The new track record and 0,5 seconds pace to the next driver, was more than a good result from qualifying.” Pekka told.
At Sunday the sun was shining and the temperature raised almost to 40 degrees of celcius when the drivers lined up to the first start. Once again, Pekka took an excellent start and started immediately pull out from the remaining group.
“At the end I started to slow down a bit, cause it wasn’t necessary to push to the limits. It was quite exceptional that the whole race was driven without any yellow flags. For me, the race and the victory were quite easy.”
Second race grid was formed according the results from the first race. The race was almost a repeat from the first one, an excellent start and easy win.
“I want to thank my team and all the engineers, who did really fantastic job with the car. It was a joy to drive through the weekend without one single technical problem.” said thankful Pekka.
At the moment Pekka is leading the championship before Alexander Imperatori and jim Ka To.
